Nutrition counseling in the Richmond area
Kelsey Shaughnessy, RDN, works across greater Richmond without a clinic. Sessions happen by video, or somewhere convenient to you if you would rather sit down in person.
How this works
There is no Richmond office, and that is deliberate
Nutrition counseling does not need an examination room. It needs an hour and somewhere you can talk without being overheard. Renting a suite to provide that would add cost to every session without adding anything to the session itself, so we do not.
What that means in practice: there is no waiting room, no front desk and no address to drive to. You book directly with Kelsey and the two of you agree where to meet. Most clients settle into video after the first appointment because it removes the travel on both sides.
If a physical office matters to you, our Roanoke practice is a staffed one and works the ordinary way. It is a long way from Richmond, so for most people reading this the answer is video.

Meeting places
Where we actually meet
For an in-person session Kelsey comes to a quiet public space near you. In practice that is usually a bookable study room at a branch of the Richmond Public Library, Henrico County Public Library or Chesterfield County Public Library, which are free, private enough for a conversation, and spread across the metro. A quiet coffee shop works too if you would rather.
You choose the spot and the time when you book. If the place you picked turns out to be noisy on the day, we move or we switch to video. Nobody has to sit in a hospital car park.
Clients come from the city, from Henrico and the Short Pump side, from Chesterfield and Midlothian, and from Glen Allen, Mechanicsville and Ashland. Further out than that and video is simply the better option.
Who you would see
Working with Kelsey
Kelsey Shaughnessy founded Finesse Nutrition in 2020 and ran it out of Roanoke before moving east. She is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist credentialed by the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
Because there is no support staff on this side of the practice, the person who answers 804-620-6084 is the person you would be working with. That is slower than a call centre and considerably more useful.
She works most often with:
- Intuitive eating
- Sustainable weight management
- Prediabetes and type 2 diabetes
- Women's health
- Heart health and cholesterol
